The uniqueness of this design lies not only in its architectural refinement but also in its commitment to caring for the interests of multiple groups, ensuring social equity, and preserving the local lifestyle. Lu Xun, often referred to as the Mark Twain of China, was a great humanitarian writer who championed intellectual liberation and spiritual freedom. The renewal of his hometown serves as a tribute to his legacy and ideals.
The design team, led by Sang Wanchen and Shi Tuo, conducted extensive research on local history through books, archives, and interviews with local scholars. They also engaged in negotiations with the local community to address issues related to economic interests and social services, ultimately proposing a win-win solution that benefits all parties involved.
One of the main challenges faced by the design team was finding a balance between historical and cultural preservation and modern urban development. The project had to meet various legal and regulatory requirements regarding height, material, color, and form. Additionally, safety, fire protection, and traffic concerns were comprehensively addressed.
The Renewal of Lu Xun's Hometown has received recognition for its excellence in city planning and urban design. In 2023, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award, which honors well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. This prestigious accolade acknowledges the integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, resulting in a design that contributes to a better world.
Through the Renewal of Lu Xun's Hometown, ZUP China has not only revitalized a historical and cultural block but also preserved the legacy of a literary icon. This project serves as a testament to the power of design in honoring the past, enriching the present, and shaping the future.
